WAEC WASSCE exam malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has started the Nigeria Examinations Committee meeting to address serious issues of malpractice and irregularities that occurred during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. This is the 78th meeting of the committee, and it aims to discuss various cases that have been reported.

In a statement shared on X, WAEC highlighted the significance of this meeting and encouraged all stakeholders to stay informed. The statement said, “The 78th Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) begins today to consider & decide on the malpractice/irregularity cases arising from the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024.” The decisions made during this meeting could greatly impact students and the overall education system in Nigeria.

WAEC also urged candidates affected by these issues, along with the public, to watch for updates regarding the meeting’s outcomes. This is particularly important given the serious nature of the malpractice cases, as they can affect students’ academic futures.

According to PUNCH Online, the results of the 2024 WASSCE were released about two months ago, specifically on August 12, 2024. The announcement indicated that WAEC was pleased to inform candidates about the release of their results. However, it was also reported that WAEC withheld the results of 215,267 candidates from this examination due to various reasons, highlighting the ongoing challenges in ensuring fairness and integrity in the examination process.

The outcomes of the Nigeria Examinations Committee meeting will be closely monitored, as they will shape the policies and practices related to examination integrity in the future.
