The University of Ibadan in Oyo State has secured a significant financial boost for its students, with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) disbursing N201,114,650 for the 2023/2024 academic session. This funding is aimed at supporting 1,370 students who applied for financial assistance through the loan program.
According to the university’s Director of Public Relations, Joke Akinpelu, the funds were received and are currently being processed by the university’s bursary department. The bursary is working diligently to ensure that all eligible students receive their funds and can obtain their ‘smart receipt,’ which confirms payment.
An internal memo, dated August 9, 2024, was issued by the university’s Registrar, Ganiyu Saliu. The memo addressed to the Dean of Students outlined that any student who has already paid their session fees and is a beneficiary of the NELFUND loan is entitled to a refund. To claim this refund, students must submit an application through the Dean of Students to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, including their account details and a photocopy of their original payment receipt.
The NELFUND loan is specifically intended for students who applied and had their applications approved. This initiative is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to provide financial support to students in need, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their academic pursuits.
For further engagement and updates, the university encourages students and the public to join the conversation on their social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, as they have recently deactivated their website’s comment section.
