In a remarkable academic achievement, twin brothers from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Ibadan have made history by graduating with identical first-class degrees. Busoye Opegbemi Matthias and Busoye Tolulope Matthew both finished with a stellar Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.94 out of a possible 4.00.

Their outstanding performance earned them the title of Overall Best Graduating Students for the 2023/2024 academic session—both within their department and the entire Faculty of Technology.

Matthias shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, expressing pride in their shared academic journey. The Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) also celebrated the duo, acknowledging not only their academic excellence but their leadership roles throughout their time at the university.

Matthias served as Honourable Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the UI Students’ Representative Council, while Matthew led the student body of SEEEES-UI as President during the 2023/2024 session.

Throughout their five-year program, the brothers maintained consistently high academic performance. Their CGPAs from 100 to 500 level show a near-identical progression: at 100 level, they recorded 3.84 and 3.89; at 200 level, 3.92 and 3.94; at 300 level, 3.95 and 3.93; at 400 level, both had 3.94 and 3.93 respectively; and in their final year, they both finished strong with a CGPA of 3.94.

The extraordinary achievement of Matthias and Matthew stands as a testament to hard work, consistency, and sibling synergy, earning them a place in the university’s academic history.
