The Irede Foundation (TIF) has renewed its call for full, unhindered access to education, healthcare, and mobility support for Nigerian children living with limb loss.

This appeal was made during the 12th edition of the foundation’s annual Out-On-A-Limb (OOAL) Inclusion Walk, held in April to mark Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month.

This year’s walk, themed “Full Access, No Cap!”, took place across 60 locations worldwide. It aimed to raise funds for prosthetic limbs, shed light on the daily challenges faced by child amputees, and push for inclusive education across all levels.

Executive Director of TIF, Mrs. Crystal Chigbu, shared how her journey began—raising a daughter born without bones in her legs. “We had to amputate. Along the way, I met many other children like her. That’s when I knew I had to take action—challenge the stigma, promote inclusion, and prove that children with disabilities can live full, impactful lives,” she said. She also urged the media and the public to amplify the message of awareness and support.

Also speaking at the event, General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Adenike Oyetunde, emphasized the importance of collaboration. She noted that government efforts alone are not enough and encouraged families to seek psycho-social support to enhance the emotional and mental well-being of both parents and children.

For 2025, the foundation is setting bold targets: reaching 60,000 people globally, raising N40 million, and engaging at least 10,000 participants in Nigeria.
