Suspected robbers raided the Awolowo Hall of Residence at the University of Ibadan (UI) in the early hours of Saturday, dispossessing students of their valuables.
Items stolen during the attack included mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and other personal belongings. Reports indicate that some students were also tortured during the raid, which lasted for several hours.
A source revealed that security personnel were alerted by the screams of the affected students and swiftly intervened. Some of the suspects were apprehended and handed over to the Sango Police Station, while a manhunt has been launched for others who managed to escape.
Confirming the incident, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, stated that reports from the hall wardens confirmed the robbers took students’ mobile phones.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, for further details were unsuccessful.
