School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) Nigeria has partnered with SHEMAPS, an Australian organization, to strengthen science education across Nigeria. This collaboration aims to give students important STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) tools, which will create more opportunities for learning in the country.
Dr. Jerry Akubo, CEO of SOHK Talents Nigeria, highlighted the partnership’s significance in addressing challenges in science education. He said, “Science education in Nigeria faces big challenges. This partnership with SHEMAPS will make a big difference by improving STEM education and making sure more students can take part.”
SHEMAPS co-founder, Mr. Paul Mead, expressed excitement about helping young people with the tools they need to succeed in STEM fields. He said, “SHEMAPS is a social enterprise from Australia. We are happy to support young girls and boys in Nigeria with STEM tools. This partnership is about providing role models and better learning opportunities.”
As a Certified Social Enterprise, SHEMAPS focuses on increasing diversity in STEM education through fun and educational programs in schools and online. These programs support teachers and students, making STEM subjects more engaging and accessible.
Already benefiting 450 students in 15 government schools in the Federal Capital Territory, the collaboration introduces a program using drones in classrooms. This aims to get more students interested in STEM subjects. The goal is to improve STEM education across Nigeria by using innovative ways to make learning more effective and enjoyable.
