The SOHCAHTOA Foundation has awarded scholarships to 100 undergraduates across various Nigerian tertiary institutions, marking the inaugural edition of this new educational initiative. Designed to support and promote education within Nigeria and across Africa, this program received an overwhelming 18,000 applications, from which the scholarship recipients were chosen.

Announcing the initiative in Abuja, SOHCAHTOA Foundation co-founder, Mrs. Solape Fayemi, highlighted the foundation’s commitment to empowering students in public tertiary institutions. She emphasized that this undergraduate scholarship is just one part of the foundation’s broader educational support programs aimed at enhancing educational access and quality for Nigerian students.

Fayemi explained that the foundation recognizes the transformative power of education and is dedicated to providing students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic journeys. She shared that, alongside this scholarship program, the foundation is preparing to launch a “Back-to-School” drive to assist public school students with essentials such as books, writing materials, bags, shoes, and other necessities. By addressing these needs, the foundation hopes to make quality education more accessible to students across Nigeria.

In this first year, the SOHCAHTOA Foundation selected 100 beneficiaries from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, underscoring their commitment to inclusivity and nationwide impact. Fayemi expressed the foundation’s ambition to grow the initiative, stating that they aim to support even more students in the upcoming academic year.

Each scholarship recipient will receive an annual grant of N250,000 to cover tuition fees until they complete their studies. This financial support is intended to ease the burden of educational expenses and enable the students to focus fully on their academic goals. Fayemi emphasized the foundation’s belief in helping young people achieve their dreams and contribute positively to society.

Addressing the broader role of private organizations in educational development, Fayemi noted that the government alone cannot address all educational needs. She encouraged other private organizations to use their resources to make a meaningful impact on society by supporting education and youth development initiatives.

Fayemi advised the scholarship beneficiaries to maintain strong academic performance, as the scholarship renewal will depend on their grades. She encouraged them to work hard and submit their results at the end of each session to continue benefiting from the program.
