Six students from secondary schools in Nigeria have achieved remarkable success in the June and November 2023 Cambridge examination series. They were honoured with the prestigious World Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards for their outstanding performance.
During the Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards ceremony in Lagos, Lucy Pearson, the British Council‘s Country Director in Nigeria, announced this achievement. These awards, organized in collaboration with Cambridge International Examinations, recognize students from British Council partner-schools across Nigeria who excelled with the highest global marks in English as a second language (speaking endorsement).
Pearson highlighted that two students performed exceptionally well in the June 2023 series, while four stood out in the November 2023 series. These six outstanding students come from Brookstone School, James Hope College in Lagos, and The Ambassadors Group of Schools.
Among the awardees, Oluwademilade David and Omaghomi Sharon from Brookstone School excelled in the June 2023 series. Obodoechi Chiedozie, Favour Chinecherem, and Fehintoluwa Erinayo represented James Hope College, Lagos, while Bamidele Sharon distinguished herself from The Ambassadors Group of Schools.
Pearson also acknowledged a total of 95 students from 37 British Council partner-schools in Nigeria who achieved top marks in subjects such as Sociology, ICT, and Business Studies.
The awards include distinctions like Top in the World for achieving the highest global marks in a single subject, and Top in Nigeria for securing the highest marks in the country per subject. They also include High Achievement Awards and Best Across Awards for exceptional performance across multiple subjects.
Juan Visser, the Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa International Education at Cambridge University, praised the Nigerian students for their outstanding academic achievements. He emphasized that Cambridge education is designed to foster students’ potential and prepare them for future opportunities.
Visser highlighted the importance of the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in recognizing the hard work of students, teachers, and parents. He expressed confidence that students who earn Cambridge qualifications are well-prepared to pursue their goals and succeed in their careers.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Oluwademilade David expressed their joy at being recognized and encouraged Nigerian students to strive for excellence in their studies.
These awards highlight the globally recognized qualifications offered by Cambridge assessments, which open doors to prestigious universities and promising career opportunities for Nigerian students.
