Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for a united effort to address Nigeria’s educational challenges, highlighting that education is crucial for overcoming poverty and inequality. Speaking at the Book Launch Programme for “Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria,” by Prof. Modupe Adelabu, Shettima emphasized that the issues in Nigeria’s education sector are complex and require a collaborative approach to resolve.
“We need to work together to tackle the historical, cultural, and socio-economic barriers that have limited access to education for many Nigerians,” Shettima said. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reform the education system, stating, “The President’s dedication to education is strong, and we must back his initiatives.”
Shettima stressed the importance of education in empowering both individuals and communities. “Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our citizens and building a prosperous and fair society,” he explained. He emphasized that education must be prioritized to ensure social mobility and economic growth.
“We must acknowledge that education is a shared responsibility, and everyone has a role in ensuring our children receive quality education,” Shettima said. He highlighted the President’s National Education Transformation Plan as a significant step toward improving the education sector and urged full support for this initiative.
“We cannot afford to neglect any child’s education. Every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education, no matter their background or circumstances,” he continued. Shettima also pointed out the importance of investing in teacher training and welfare, noting that teachers are crucial to delivering quality education.
Promoting a culture of learning and innovation in schools is also vital, according to Shettima. He encouraged fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among students. “Education is a matter of social justice. Every Nigerian child must have the chance to receive quality education,” he said.
Shettima concluded by urging Nigerians to rally behind the government’s efforts to improve education. “We must set aside our differences and work together to create a better future for ourselves and future generations,” he said. He encouraged everyone to join forces to overcome challenges and build a Nigeria where every citizen has access to quality education and opportunities.
