The Jurist Chamber of the Faculty of Law at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, has initiated a strategic partnership with sister legal institutions to enhance legal education and promote justice.
Announcing this development during a public lecture in honor of Justice Eleojo Enanche JCA, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Saleh Muhammad Galadima Kanam, emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing challenges within the Nigerian judiciary.
At the event, Professor Kanam delivered a lecture titled “Delay in Disposing Cases by the Supreme Court and its Implications for Access to Justice in Nigeria: A Call for Reform.” He highlighted major issues such as prolonged case resolution, an insufficient number of justices, and procedural inefficiencies. He advocated for the creation of Zonal Judicial Divisions within the Supreme Court, arguing that decentralization would improve access to justice and expedite case resolution.
Justice Enanche, who presented a complementary paper on “Delay in Disposing Cases by the Appellate Courts in Nigeria from the Perspectives of Access to Justice: Unbundling the Supreme Court as Panacea. Issues and Prospects,” supported the call for judicial reform. He praised SAZU’s Faculty of Law for providing a platform to address critical legal issues and stressed the need for stronger partnerships among legal institutions to advance justice in Nigeria.
The event was attended by key figures in the legal profession, including the JSC Secretary and the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Ibrahim Danjuma. Their presence underscored the significance of the discussions and the necessity for judicial improvements.
Through these collaborations, the Faculty of Law at SAZU reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and legal reform. By fostering partnerships and facilitating meaningful dialogue, the institution aims to contribute to the growth of the Nigerian judiciary and the broader legal landscape.
