Three primary school pupils have emerged as winners of the 2024/2025 MoneyBee Competition, a financial literacy initiative by Junior Achievement Nigeria in partnership with Prudence Foundation.
The nationwide contest, designed to equip young learners with essential money management skills, saw Akosile Opendoors from God’s Foundation School, Ondo State, take the top prize. Abdulrahman Burhan of Sacson Nursery and Primary School, Lagos State, secured second place, while Adedoyin Delight from M & N Model School, Akure, Ondo State, finished third.
The competition featured two key phases—Cha-Ching, which introduced students to fundamental financial concepts, and MoneyBee, where participants demonstrated their knowledge and decision-making skills in an online examination. Engaging over 25,000 pupils across 20 states, the initiative culminated in a hybrid Grand Finale, where eight finalists competed for the top spots.
Speaking at the event, Head of Branding & Communications-Project, Prudence Foundation, Jennifer Okereke, emphasized the importance of financial literacy at an early age. She highlighted how the program equips young minds with essential money management skills, teaching them the principles of earning, saving, spending, and donating.
Program Officer Oluwatosin Oyetayo praised the participants for their dedication and intelligence, noting that the competition showcased the financial acumen and critical thinking abilities of young Nigerians. She described it as more than just a contest but a celebration of learning, digital inclusion, and the bright future of financially savvy youths.
Junior Achievement Nigeria’s Executive Director, Ugonna Achebe, stressed that financial literacy is a crucial life skill that should be nurtured from an early age. She commended the students for their confidence and knowledge throughout the competition and expressed gratitude to Prudence Foundation, Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Channels TV, volunteers, school owners, teachers, and all stakeholders who contributed to the event’s success.
