The Plateau State Ministry of Education has shut down two private schools in Jos for failing to meet the required operational standards.

Mr. Sabastine John, the Director of Quality Assurance in the ministry, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Jos.

The affected schools, identified as First Academy in Jos North and Niret Private School in Jos South, were closed during an ongoing verification exercise aimed at assessing private schools across the state.

John stated that the decision to close the schools was part of efforts to ensure quality education for children in Plateau State.

“We observed that the facilities in these schools remain in a deplorable state, and the management has failed to comply with the necessary standards,” he said. “The learning environment is not conducive for quality teaching, and we cannot allow this situation to persist.”

He further noted that First Academy had been previously shut down two years ago due to substandard facilities but was later reopened following assurances from the management. However, inspections revealed that no significant improvements had been made.

“This action aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring that all schools in the state adhere to the stipulated guidelines,” John added.

The director advised the affected schools’ management to address the identified deficiencies and apply for reopening once they meet the required standards.
