The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has emphasized the need to reform the Scheme’s mobilisation process in response to the evolving dynamics of contemporary society.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop, General Nafiu highlighted that the NYSC must adapt to the rapid changes in the world in order to remain relevant and effective. He explained that the theme of the workshop, “Reforming Corps Mobilisation in the Contemporary Nigerian Society: Challenges and Prospects,” was timely, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen the Scheme’s core mandate of promoting national unity, integration, and holistic youth development.

According to him, the NYSC is focusing on leveraging technology, enhancing security partnerships, improving infrastructure, and deploying corps members based on skills to improve operational efficiency and overall experience for both prospective and serving corps members.

He urged participants—representatives from corps-producing institutions across the country—to engage in critical discussions on the current challenges and future prospects of the NYSC mobilisation process. “We will examine the intersections of youth development, national service, and societal transformation while exploring innovative strategies to harness the energy and ideas of Nigerian youth to build a more peaceful, just, and prosperous society,” he said.

In a statement released by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations of NYSC, Caroline Embu, the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, reaffirmed the importance of the pre-mobilisation workshop. He described it as a platform that brings together NYSC officials, corps-producing institutions, and other key stakeholders to collaborate on improving mobilisation strategies.

Abubakar noted that the Scheme has already made significant strides in addressing past challenges through innovative practices and strengthened partnerships.
