The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially approved the establishment of the Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship, making it the 67th state-owned university in Nigeria.
Presenting the letter of recognition to Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, in Abuja, NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu described the approval as a major milestone in the state’s educational and economic development. He emphasized that the university would not only provide quality education but also equip students with entrepreneurial skills to thrive in today’s economy.
Ribadu praised the Cross River State government for its commitment to expanding higher education opportunities and ensuring that learning institutions drive research, innovation, and community development. He called on stakeholders—including government officials, university administrators, and students—to uphold the institution’s academic integrity and governance, ensuring it stands out as a center of excellence.
Representing the governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, described the university’s establishment as a long-awaited achievement. He expressed gratitude to the NUC for its support and guidance throughout the process, affirming that the state was fully prepared to commence academic activities.
Owan-Enoh highlighted the university’s potential to address unemployment by producing graduates with entrepreneurial skills, further strengthening the socio-economic landscape of Cross River State.
