In a bid to drive economic reform and inclusive growth, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has called for a strategic partnership with the MTN Foundation to enhance digital literacy and capacity building in Nigeria.

Inuwa made this appeal during a courtesy visit by an MTN Foundation delegation, led by Odunayo Sanya, to NITDA’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja. He emphasized the need for collaboration in promoting digital literacy as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s industrialization agenda, aimed at fostering a dynamic and diversified economy.

Highlighting NITDA’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative, Inuwa stated that the agency is committed to achieving 95% digital literacy across Nigeria by 2027. He further noted that NITDA is developing a national digital literacy framework based on UNESCO and DigiCom standards. The framework will introduce a structured three-phase curriculum for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, prioritizing skills acquisition over mere certification.

The MTN Foundation, which shares similar objectives, currently offers online programs with over 4,000 courses, benefiting 2,000 young Nigerians so far. Sanya commended NITDA’s efforts and extended an invitation for the agency to unveil its academy platform on April 17.

To ensure the effective realization of their shared vision, both organizations have agreed to form a joint committee. This partnership is expected to significantly advance digital literacy and capacity development in Nigeria, in line with the country’s national development goals.
