Nigerian Lawyer Earns Two Masters and PhD in Law from UK Universities

Cynthia Umezulike, a brilliant Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, has earned two master’s degrees and a doctorate from top UK universities. She started her academic journey with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Igbinedion University in Nigeria. After completing her law degree, she attended the Nigerian Law School and became a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Not stopping there, Cynthia pursued further education. She earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Law and Criminal Justice from the University of East London, and another LL.M from Queen Mary University of London. Her academic journey peaked with a doctorate in Law from Birkbeck, University of London, which she celebrated by attending the graduation ceremony in person.

Cynthia expressed her excitement about attending her doctoral graduation, especially as she earned the degree during the COVID-19 pandemic. She thanked her father for funding her education and providing emotional, mental, and intellectual support. During her PhD, Cynthia worked as the Global Head of Legal and Governance and lectured in law at Birkbeck University. Her father’s support helped her maintain a high standard of living and focus on her studies.

She also appreciated her friends and colleagues who supported her during her doctoral studies, attended international conferences with her, and helped her overcome academic challenges. Their emotional support was crucial for her success.
