In Kwara State, the new Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) will help 120,000 students improve their digital learning skills. Launched in Ilorin, this program offers online access to educational resources. Supported by UNICEF and the Kwara State government, NLP aims to make learning easier and more accessible.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazq, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Jibril Mamma Saba, emphasized that the NLP initiative is designed to bring classrooms closer to students through digital learning. This approach allows students to access educational materials from anywhere in the world, making learning more flexible and accessible.
The governor praised both the federal government and UNICEF for their roles in introducing this program. He expressed optimism that the NLP will not only benefit students but also enhance the skills of teachers in Kwara State. By integrating digital learning tools, the program aims to improve the overall quality of education in the state.
UNICEF’s Chief Office Representative, Gerida Birukila, addressed the gathering through Education Officer Bala Dada. Mr. Birukila highlighted that the initiative includes training for about 3,000 teachers in digital skills. This training is crucial for equipping educators with the knowledge needed to effectively use digital tools in their teaching practices.
The NLP is particularly focused on supporting marginalized groups, including poor rural residents, marginalized girls, and out-of-school children. To further aid these groups, around 15,000 devices have been distributed to disadvantaged and rural students. These devices are intended to improve students’ digital skills and facilitate their learning process.
UNICEF remains committed to partnering with the Kwara State government to advance education and health initiatives. The organization’s continued support is crucial in helping to ensure that the benefits of the NLP reach those who need them most and contribute to the overall improvement of education in the region.
