The Nigerian government is giving N13 billion to help universities do more research and build new labs. This money shows the government wants to help the country grow through new knowledge and better education.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved N5 billion for the National Research Fund (NRF) and N8 billion to build Central Multipurpose Laboratories at some universities in Nigeria. The Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman, was very happy about this money. At a special event, the Minister said, “President Tinubu’s approval shows he wants to help research grow for the country’s development.”
The Minister spoke about making research better in different areas. He said Nigeria needs to have more books and materials written by Nigerian authors, instead of using so many things from other countries. Programs like the Higher Education Book Development Project can help with this.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc Sonny Echono, praised the committees that will manage the National Research Fund. He said that since 2009, the NRF has given 912 research grants worth N24,021,679,195.88 to public universities. This has helped with applied research and new ideas.
The committees were told to work hard and do a good job. They need to make sure the money is used properly to help research and book writing grow in Nigeria. This will lead to progress for the whole country.
By giving money for research and new labs, the Nigerian government is making a way for new discoveries, better technology, and a knowledge-based economy. This important step will make Nigeria’s universities stronger and could bring more smart people from around the world to work in Nigeria.
Everyone involved in education and research in Nigeria should use this chance well. Working together across different subjects and using knowledge in the right way can help solve big problems and create new opportunities for the country’s growth.
