The Niger State Government has committed N300 billion to revamp its education sector in line with global best practices.
Governor Umaru Bago made this known during the groundbreaking ceremony for the revitalization of basic education infrastructure in the state, with Marafa Basic School serving as the pilot project. He stated that N100 billion would be invested this year to expand and renovate schools, while an additional N100 billion would be allocated for remodelling and upgrading institutions into mega schools.
In line with its goal of providing inclusive and quality education, the state government has also earmarked N5 billion for the expansion and upgrade of 25 nomadic schools, as well as interventions for Qur’anic and Tsangaya schools.
Another N5 billion has been set aside for children with special needs over the next five years.
Governor Bago emphasized that education is a fundamental right, reaffirming that the state has made basic education free and compulsory. Additionally, to equip students with modern learning tools, the government will provide one million computers and tablets across public schools, ensuring students keep pace with global educational standards.
