Niger Govt Urges Parents, Guardians to Enroll Children in Schools

Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba has emphasised the importance of education and agriculture in the state, while he advised parents and guardians to ensure that they enrol their children and wards in schools.

Garba also advocated the need for the people of the State to key into the agricultural policy of the incumbent Governor Mohammed Umar Bago- led administration presently ongoing in the state

He gave the advice while declaring open the annual Gurara Waterfalls Cultural (GUWAC Festival) held over the weekend at Gawu Babangida, Council Secretariat of the Gurara local government council.

Garba also advocated for the need for the organisers under the aegis of the Big Brothers Association in collaboration with the other stakeholders in the council area to sustain the annual Gurara Waterfalls Cultural Festival on an annual basis.

The Festival was held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Gawu Babangida, headquarters of Gurara Local Government Council of the State

The Deputy Governor also expressed delight that the festival was aimed at promoting cultural harmony, peace, and unity among the people of Niger State.

He commended the organisers for upholding the cultural identity of the Gabgyi people and urged them to sustain the tempo while enumerating some of the gains being derived by the government and the people of the State in the fight against insecurity challenges confronting the state for quite some time now.

In attendance also was the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hajiya Fatima Adamu, who was represented by the Director of Tourism in the ministry, Madam Rakiya Tiffi.

It was however gathered that this year’s edition marked the 9th edition of the festival, which showcases Niger State’s abundant natural resources and rich cultural heritage.

Further checks revealed that the festival has become a significant event in the state’s cultural calendar, attracting visitors from across the country.

Some insider sources at the event who pleaded for anonymity stated that the presence of the Deputy Governor in conjunction with Hon. Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Mamman, at the festival, demonstrated the state government’s commitment to promoting cultural development and preserving the state’s rich heritage.

Highlights of the event include crafts, an art exhibition regatta, dancing by different groups and awards of Excellence to the Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Information and Strategy among others.
