A Non-Governmental Organisation, Education and Empowerment Centre for Women (EECW), has called for the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education among girls in rural areas of Kaduna State.
The EECW Project Coordinator, Ben Dankaka, made this appeal during a science-themed schools debate held in Kagoro, Kaura Local Government Area.
The debate was organized under the Laraba Deyjih Akapson Science Innovation Prize for Girls initiative, a program designed to educate and empower young girls with limited access to STEM education and resources.
Dankaka explained that the initiative was established in honor of the late Laraba Deyjih Akapson, the mother of EECW founder, Senator Nenadi Usman.
“The Laraba Deyjih Akapson Science Innovation Prize for Girls is a project created to continue her legacy of service to others. Through this initiative, we aim to provide STEM learning opportunities for girls who would otherwise have little or no access to such resources,” he said.
The organization hopes the initiative will inspire more girls in rural communities to pursue careers in science and technology.
