According to the latest data from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), students from Kano, Borno, Benue, and Katsina states are leading in loan applications. The fund, which supports students across Nigeria with financial aid, shared a breakdown of the applications by state through its official X handle, @nelfnigeria.
The data reveals that Kano tops the list with 17,122 applicants. Borno follows with 13,798 applications, and Benue ranks third with 11,754. Katsina also shows a significant number of applicants, with 10,952. Kaduna comes next with 10,380 applicants. Other states with notable numbers include Plateau with 9,328, Oyo with 8,990, and Adamawa with 8,977. The list continues with Kogi at 8,400, Osun at 8,093, and Kwara at 7,645. Taraba has 8,668, Yobe has 8,966, Ogun has 5,943, Akwa-Ibom has 6,525, Bauchi has 6,517, Kebbi has 6,333, and Gombe has 6,121. Niger and Jigawa have 5,804 and 5,535 applicants respectively.
Other states have lower numbers of applicants. Ondo has 3,854, Nasarawa has 4,789, Ekiti has 3,497, Imo has 2,802, Delta has 2,771, Ebonyi has 2,981, Cross-River has 2,476, Enugu has 2,247, Abia has 2,170, and Lagos has 2,347. Anambra has 1,840, Zamfara has 2,986, Edo has 2,149, Rivers has 2,162, Sokoto has 2,055, Bayelsa has 1,267, and the Federal Capital Territory has the least with 676 applicants.
