The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has recently granted full accreditation to 30 programs at the College of Education Gindiri, located in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. This important update was shared by Prof. Lazarus Maigoro, the Acting Provost of the college, during a press conference held in Jos.
The accreditation signifies a major milestone for the College of Education Gindiri. As stated by Elizabeth Aboreng, the college’s Public Relations Officer, this accreditation allows the institution to enroll students into its National Certificate in Education (NCE) programs for the 2024/2025 academic year. Among the accredited programs is the Special Education course, which will now be available at the college.
In addition to the program accreditations, the NCCE’s approval also includes the re-establishment of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Science. This department had been closed for 15 years, and its reopening is a significant step in enhancing the college’s educational offerings.
Prof. Maigoro, who spoke on behalf of the college’s management, staff, and students, expressed profound gratitude to Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang. His support and funding played a crucial role in achieving this accreditation. The Provost highlighted that this development is set to elevate the college’s ability to deliver high-quality teacher education.
The accreditation is expected to greatly benefit the institution by allowing it to provide more comprehensive and diverse educational opportunities. This will, in turn, help in fully realizing the college’s educational potential and improving the quality of teacher education in the region.
Furthermore, the re-established Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Science will address a critical gap in the local education system, offering specialized training and support that had been lacking for years.
The positive impact of this accreditation extends beyond the college itself. It signifies a commitment to improving educational standards and access in Plateau State, aligning with broader goals of educational advancement and excellence.
As the college prepares to welcome new students and roll out its expanded programs, the support from local and state government officials, along with the NCCE’s endorsement, underscores the collective effort to enhance educational opportunities in the region.
