The National Association of University Students (NAUS), Ogun State Chapter, is urging the Federal Government to quickly arrange a meeting with everyone involved to tackle the possible strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). This urgent call aims to prevent interruptions to the academic calendar that could negatively affect students’ futures.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NAUS shared their deep worries about how the strike could impact students’ education. Akinjetan Hammed Emmanuel, the Chairman of NAUS Ogun State, highlighted the importance of talking things through and finding a compromise to avoid the strike. He believes that reaching a peaceful agreement is essential to protect students’ academic progress and maintain the quality of higher education.
Akinjetan stressed that it is important for the government, ASUU, and other parties to work together to find a solution that benefits everyone and stops the strike from happening. He hopes that by cooperating, they can ensure that the education system keeps moving forward without any interruptions.
NAUS has also asked Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to increase the monthly funding for higher institutions in the state. While they appreciate the governor’s past support for education, they are urging him to invest more in the quality and affordability of tertiary education. They also suggested that Governor Abiodun consider donating a bus to a federal university in Ogun State, similar to how he has supported other universities with donations before.
NAUS remains committed to fighting for students’ rights and well-being. The organization will continue to work with the relevant authorities to address the challenges faced by higher education institutions in Ogun State.
