The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has praised President Bola Tinubu’s education reforms, which have resulted in the appointment of over 200 scholars, including 100 professors, to manage the country’s higher education institutions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NANS President Comrade Pedro Chibuzor Obi expressed the association’s gratitude to President Tinubu for addressing long-standing issues in the education sector promptly. NANS highlighted that the appointment of experienced academicians, technocrats, and politicians to the governing councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education would accelerate the sector’s development.
NANS also urged the newly appointed council members to uphold justice and avoid the victimization of students by institution management. Additionally, the association called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to work collaboratively with the new council members and support President Tinubu’s genuine efforts to improve the education sector.
“Nigerian students are immensely grateful to President Tinubu for taking prompt action to appoint worthy academicians, technocrats, and experienced politicians into the councils,” NANS stated. “We believe these appointments have the potential to fast-track the rapid development of Nigerian academic institutions.”
NANS commended President Tinubu for his dedication to transforming academic institutions through the appointment of an incorruptible team of administrators. The association also appreciated the recent introduction of a student loan program for Nigerian students.
“We appeal to the newly appointed council members to stand for justice and not encourage the victimization of students by institution management. We are proud of Mr. President’s foresight in appointing some of the finest Nigerians to run our ivory towers,” NANS added. “Lastly, we urge the Academic Staff Union of Universities to cooperate with the new council members and Mr. President’s genuine concern for the development of our education sector.”
