Dr. Olushola Odusanya, the Director-General of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), has highlighted the center’s commitment to improving vocational education in Nigeria. In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Odusanya explained the importance of vocational training, noting that 70% of job opportunities come from vocational skills, which are currently underutilized.
Odusanya emphasized that teaching vocational skills is a great way to share knowledge in the informal sector. This not only helps individuals gain practical skills but also boosts the economy. However, he stressed that for vocational education to succeed, significant investments and the provision of quality certificates and accreditations are needed.
NACETEM, as a Certiport training and certification center, has created training programs that award recognized certificates. Odusanya mentioned that these certification programs target a large number of vocationally trained individuals, who are essential to the economy. He also noted that these programs could attract politicians who want to empower their voters.
The NACETEM Director-General also spoke about the Academy’s partnership with a private company to create a strong Learning Management System. This system provides extensive training opportunities, allowing many people to gain valuable vocational skills.
Odusanya reiterated the importance of learning vocational skills, especially for those who may not have formal education but need practical abilities to succeed. He concluded by saying that vocational training is a key part of education, helping many people and boosting the economy.
