MTN Nigeria recently organized a significant gathering at Rooftop MTN Plaza, Ikoyi. The event brought together leaders from the public and private sectors, academia, government agencies, and MTN officials. The primary goal was to stimulate discussions on improving digital education for Nigerian pupils, with a strong emphasis on making it more accessible and ensuring high quality.
Aisha Mumuni, MTN Nigeria‘s Chief Digital Officer, talked about the importance of being actively involved in shaping educational policies. She pointed out the urgent need to close the gaps between public and private sectors. Mumuni reaffirmed MTN’s dedication to working together with others to find solutions through continuous discussions, aiming to enhance education by using new and creative methods.
Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, founder of Passnownow.com and lead consultant of #MTNFGDonED, highlighted the crucial role of education in Nigeria’s development. She commended MTN for using digital platforms to enhance educational delivery, imagining a future where Nigerian children use mobile technology to learn independently, thereby revolutionizing traditional teaching approaches.
Dr. Ossom Ossom, Director of Social Mobilisation at UBEC, expressed worries about the differences in how public and private schools approach education. He called for a shift towards using digital learning solutions. Dr. Ossom mentioned UBEC’s work in creating digital centers nationwide to improve how students access education. He stressed the importance of working together to make the most of digital tools and help Nigerian students learn better.
Celine Lafoucriere, UNICEF‘s Chief Field Officer, highlighted UNICEF’s digital learning solutions, including the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP), operational in 19 states. She talked about how partnerships are crucial for creating new ways to teach digitally. This supports MTN’s goal to give Nigerian children effective learning tools.
The forum ended with everyone agreeing on the importance of working together to improve digital education. They emphasized the need to ensure that every Nigerian child has fair access to high-quality education. They also talked about using digital tools to solve current education problems.
