The MTN Foundation has announced that it has invested more than N3 billion in scholarships over the past 15 years, positively impacting nearly 15,000 students across Nigeria. This effort forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to education and national development.
This milestone was revealed as the Foundation opened applications for its 2025 scholarship programme. Since its inception, the initiative has awarded a total of 14,728 scholarships under three major categories: the Science and Technology Scholarship Scheme (MTN STS), the Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS), and the Top 10 UTME Scholarship.
Executive Director of the MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, stated in a press release that the initiative is rooted in a vision to empower Nigeria’s future leaders by removing financial barriers to education.
“Education is the backbone of national development, and at the MTN Foundation, we’re committed to ensuring that no brilliant mind is left behind because of financial limitations. Our scholarship programme is more than just financial aid—it’s an investment in the innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders of tomorrow,” she said.
In 2024, the Foundation raised the annual scholarship value from N200,000 to N300,000. This amount is awarded yearly until graduation, provided recipients maintain the required academic standards.
The MTN STS targets 300-level students in science and technology disciplines with a minimum CGPA of 3.5. The SBS is designed for visually impaired students in their 200 level with at least a 2.5 CGPA. Meanwhile, the Top 10 UTME Scholarship is reserved for the ten highest-scoring candidates in JAMB’s UTME exams.
Beyond financial support, the scholarship programme also offers mentorship, internship opportunities, and digital skills training to help recipients thrive in the modern workforce.
Through this initiative, the MTN Foundation continues to support education, encourage academic excellence, and bridge opportunity gaps for students across Nigeria.
