Mathema Nigeria, a leading academic and professional organization dedicated to excellence, critical thinking, and innovation, is set to hold its second mathematics competition and conference, themed “Mathema 2.0: Advancing Leadership & Mathematical Excellence.”
The two-day event, scheduled for May 8th and 9th, 2025, at the Yaba College of Technology Multipurpose Hall (tentatively), aims to enhance mathematical proficiency, develop leadership skills, and highlight real-world applications of mathematics across various industries. The competition will bring together secondary school students from across South-West Nigeria to test their problem-solving and analytical skills in an intense intellectual challenge.
The first day will feature a high-level mathematics contest, while the second day will focus on a leadership conference with professionals from diverse fields such as engineering, banking, accounting, law, arts, medicine, and technology. These industry experts will share insights, career experiences, and practical applications of mathematics in their respective fields to inspire students.
Teachers will also benefit from specialized training sessions designed to introduce innovative teaching methods, technology-driven strategies, and curriculum enhancements aimed at improving student engagement and learning outcomes.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Mathema Nigeria co-founder, Segun Osunniyi Emmanuel, highlighted that the competition and conference aim to inspire future leaders and innovators through mathematics and leadership education. He described Mathema 2.0 as more than just a competition, but a movement to cultivate the next generation of mathematicians, problem-solvers, and industry leaders, equipping young minds with the skills needed for academic and professional success.
The event is open to secondary school students, educators, school administrators, and professionals interested in mathematics and its practical applications. Registration opens on February 28, 2025, and schools can sign up via Mathema.ng.
