The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, has confirmed that students who applied for the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) have started receiving their student loans. Dr. Odedeji made this announcement during the inauguration of the newly elected members of the institution’s Students Union Government (SUG) on Friday.
According to the Rector, the student loans were credited to the institution on behalf of the students for the payment of their school fees. However, Dr. Odedeji expressed concern that a majority of students had not taken advantage of the loan scheme, despite it being a Federal Government initiative aimed at alleviating the financial stress many students face when trying to pay their tuition fees.
The Rector revealed that the institution had provided data for around 11,000 students to NELFUND, but only 81 students registered and applied for the loan. After a thorough screening process, 26 of those students were deemed qualified to receive the loan. Dr. Odedeji encouraged more students to apply for the loan, highlighting that it remains a viable option for those struggling to pay their fees.
“For the 26 students who qualified, I received confirmation that their school fees for the next session have been paid this morning,” Dr. Odedeji said. He added that the student loan would also include a maintenance allowance, which would be directly credited to the students’ bank accounts in the future.
The Rector reiterated the importance of students taking advantage of the loan program, which is designed to ease their financial burden. He reassured students that the opportunity is still available and urged those who have not applied to do so.
In addition to his comments on the loan disbursement, Dr. Odedeji emphasized the strong partnership between the school management and the students, noting that this cooperation is vital for the overall growth and success of the institution.
Meanwhile, the newly inaugurated SUG President, Prosper Oladele, assured the student body that he would represent their interests effectively and without compromise. He pledged to work closely with the administration to ensure that students continue to benefit from opportunities like the student loan initiative.
