Lagos State University (LASU) has announced that 192 students will be graduating with First Class honours during its 28th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to take place from April 3 to April 10, 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, made the announcement at a pre-convocation press conference held on Thursday at the university’s main campus in Ojo. She revealed that a total of 8,711 students completed their first-degree programmes, while 2,235 postgraduate students will also be awarded degrees.
Breaking down the results, the Vice-Chancellor stated that in addition to the 192 First Class graduates, 3,076 students earned Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 obtained Second Class Lower Division, 990 students will graduate with Third Class, and 39 earned a Pass. A further 17 students completed their studies with unclassified degrees in Medicine (MBBS) and Dentistry (BDS).
On the postgraduate level, 302 students earned Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 obtained Academic Master’s degrees, 639 will receive Professional Master’s degrees, 125 completed Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 will be awarded Professional Doctoral degrees.
The university will also be conferring honorary doctorate degrees on two notable Nigerians in recognition of their service to the institution and the country. These recipients are Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State, and Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
Professor Olatunji-Bello also announced the best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session: Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department, who achieved an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93.
In the diploma category, 971 students completed their programmes. Among them, 123 earned distinctions, 550 received upper credits, 287 had lower credits, and 11 students graduated with a pass.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the graduating students for their hard work and expressed pride in the university’s consistent growth in academic excellence.
