LASU Names Nwosu Isioma Sybil Overall Best Graduating Student for 2023/2024

Lagos State University (LASU) has announced Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department as the overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session. She achieved an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93.

The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, during a pre-convocation press conference held on Thursday at the university’s main campus in Ojo. The press briefing marked the official commencement of the university’s 28th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold from April 3 to April 10, 2025.

Expressing her pride in the academic excellence recorded during the session, the Vice-Chancellor stated that a total of 8,711 students completed their first-degree programmes. Of this number, 192 graduated with First Class honours, 3,076 earned Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 obtained Second Class Lower Division, 990 finished with Third Class, and 39 received a Pass. Seventeen students graduated with unclassified degrees in Medicine (MBBS) and Dentistry (BDS).

At the postgraduate level, 2,235 students will be awarded degrees. This includes 302 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 Academic Master’s degrees, 639 Professional Master’s degrees, 125 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 Professional Doctoral degrees.

In addition to the academic awards, LASU will confer honorary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians: Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State, and Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State. The honour recognises their outstanding contributions to both the university and the nation.

The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that 971 students completed diploma programmes, with 123 earning distinctions, 550 awarded upper credits, 287 graduating with lower credits, and 11 finishing with a pass.
