Lagos State Enhances School Infrastructure to Boost Academic Performance

The Lagos State government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving students’ academic performance and reducing dropout rates through the provision of modern school infrastructure. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known during the commissioning of 12 blocks of classrooms at Ilupeju Community Grammar School, Ilupeju.

Similar projects were also inaugurated at United Christian Secondary School, Apapa, and Ipaja Junior Grammar School, reflecting the government’s drive to create a more conducive learning environment across the state. Represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the governor emphasized research findings that highlight the role of well-designed school facilities in enhancing student performance.

Sanwo-Olu stressed that secondary education is a critical stage for developing students’ academic and professional futures. He reaffirmed his administration’s vision to build a competitive public education system, stating that significant investments have been made to upgrade schools as part of an inclusive policy to ensure that all students receive quality education.

Addressing students, the governor urged them to make the most of the improved facilities, reminding them that the infrastructure was funded through taxpayers’ contributions. Teachers were also encouraged to maintain high teaching standards while utilizing the upgraded facilities to foster academic excellence.

The government’s rehabilitation and construction efforts have extended to all divisions of Lagos, ensuring equitable access to modern classrooms, laboratories, and administrative blocks. At United Christian Secondary School, Apapa, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, reiterated the administration’s dedication to education as the foundation for the state’s future. He noted that the ongoing projects symbolize a commitment to providing students with the necessary resources to excel.

At Ipaja Junior Grammar School, Commissioner for Establishment, Training, and Pension, Afolabi Ayantayo, underscored the importance of education in unlocking the potential of young people. He encouraged parents to ensure their children take full advantage of the government’s free primary and secondary education.

Stakeholders, including the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) and various education district officials, praised the government’s commitment to education. They highlighted initiatives such as vocational training, free WAEC examination fees, and the development of libraries and laboratories as key steps towards academic and professional empowerment.

The event concluded with officials reaffirming their dedication to sustaining and expanding educational development in Lagos. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that investing in education is a strategic move to empower future leaders and innovators who will drive progress and prosperity in the state.
