The Kuwaiti government has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the education of 200,000 out-of-school children in Kaduna through the Reaching Out-of-School Children project. Kuwaiti Ambassador to Nigeria, Salim Almuzayen, made the announcement on Tuesday during Kuwait’s 64th National Day and 34th Liberation Day celebration in Abuja.

Almuzayen emphasized that the initiative aims to provide equitable access to quality primary education, particularly for children with disabilities, girls, and adolescents in Kaduna. Funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in collaboration with partners and UNICEF, the project is designed to improve educational opportunities for more than 200,000 students.

He also highlighted the strong diplomatic relationship between Kuwait and Nigeria, which dates back to the 1960s when the Al-Sabah School was established in Kaduna. He described the initiative as a reflection of the deep historical ties between the two nations and expressed optimism about further cooperation in various sectors.

Adeolu Okenla, Senior Councillor of the Middle East and Gulf Division at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, praised the longstanding diplomatic relationship between both countries, which officially began in 1971 with collaboration in political and economic affairs. He also commended Kuwait’s role in promoting regional peace and development, particularly through the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Okenla further acknowledged Kuwait’s commitment to education, citing the country’s free education policy from primary school to university, which has contributed to a 96.46% adult literacy rate.
