The Jigawa State Government has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to provide free education for female indigenes across all levels of state-owned institutions, from primary school to PhD.

The programme, championed by Governor Umar Namadi, seeks to empower women through education by eliminating financial barriers that hinder their academic aspirations.

Jigawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Chamo, commended the initiative as a historic milestone in promoting gender equality. “This is a significant step towards empowering women.

By providing free education, the government is enabling women to make informed decisions, achieve their goals, and contribute to their communities,” he remarked.

The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Scholarships Board, Sa’idu Magaji, emphasized the commitment behind the programme. “We believe education is the key to unlocking potential.

This initiative reflects our dedication to supporting female students at every stage of their academic journey,” he stated.

The initiative aims to encourage more girls to pursue education by addressing financial challenges, aligning with global calls to enhance access to education for girls and women—a critical factor in achieving sustainable development.

Observers have lauded the programme as a transformative effort to uplift women, advance gender equality, and promote societal progress in Jigawa State.
