On August 8, 2024, the Jigawa State Government took a significant step by approving N888 million to pay for the examination fees of 39,709 students. This decision was announced by Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sport, and Culture, in a statement from the state capital, Dutse.
The approval came during a State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Umar Namadi. The funds are allocated to cover the registration fees for several important exams, including those conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) for the 2024 academic year. This financial assistance is intended to help students by reducing the cost of taking these crucial exams.
The payment will cover various exams such as the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), NECO, the National Teachers Certificate (NTC), NABTEB, and other similar assessments. This move underscores the state government’s dedication to supporting education and ensuring that students have the necessary resources to succeed.
Beyond the examination fees, the State Executive Council also approved an additional N400 million to support Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Jigawa. This amount represents the final portion of a previously approved N1 billion fund designed to help local businesses grow and boost the state’s economy.
The decision to fund both education and local businesses shows the government’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens. By covering the examination fees, the government is removing a financial barrier that might otherwise prevent students from advancing in their education. Similarly, by supporting MSMEs, the government is investing in the economic future of the state.
Governor Namadi’s administration is focused on creating opportunities for both students and entrepreneurs. By addressing educational needs and providing financial support to businesses, the government is working to build a stronger, more prosperous future for Jigawa State.
The approval of these funds shows the government’s active effort to tackle the challenges its people face. By helping students with exam fees and supporting small businesses, the Jigawa State Government is working to promote growth and development in the area.
