The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over some tertiary institutions admitting students with fake Advanced Level (A’Level) results, particularly for Direct Entry (DE) admissions.

In its weekly bulletin released on Monday, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated that some institutions fail to properly verify candidates’ credentials before granting admission.

“One of the fundamental purposes of the screening process is to ensure that only legitimate documents are used for admission and registration,” the bulletin read. “It is crucial for institutions to understand that this responsibility lies primarily with them.”

JAMB highlighted that the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) was introduced two years ago to curb such fraudulent practices. This initiative followed a shocking discovery by Bayero University, Kano (BUK), which reported that out of 148 A’Level results it verified, only six were genuine, while the rest were fake.

The board has urged institutions to uphold strict verification processes to prevent further academic fraud and protect the integrity of the admission system.
