The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chief Davidson Alaribe, has affirmed Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) as a top producer of chartered accountants in Nigeria.
During his presidential visit to the college, Alaribe praised YABATECH for its dedication to academic excellence and its significant contribution to the accounting profession. He highlighted the institution’s role in training professionals with integrity, accuracy, and technical expertise.
Reflecting on his time at the college, where he obtained both his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accounting before graduating in 1996, Alaribe credited YABATECH for shaping his journey to the peak of his profession. He urged students to uphold core accounting values while adapting to technological advancements such as artificial intelligence.
Rector Dr. Ibraheem Abdul expressed appreciation for ICAN’s longstanding support and called for further collaboration through the college’s initiative, A Day with the Industry Partners, aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry.
The visit also included a tribute to Sir George Majekodunmi Okufi, YABATECH’s first indigenous rector and the first registrar and CEO of ICAN. Alaribe acknowledged Okufi’s legacy, describing his contributions as foundational to both the college and the accounting profession in Nigeria.
