The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Program, established in 2004, provides fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies who are pursuing PhD or Post-doctoral research in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields at top universities worldwide. This initiative is rooted in Schlumberger’s dedication to gender parity in science, recognizing that women’s full participation in STEM fields is vital for their empowerment and global progress.
Since its inception, 863 women from 90 countries have received fellowships, allowing them to contribute to technological and scientific advancement in their communities.
About Schlumberger Foundation
The Schlumberger Foundation supports women scientists and engineers from underrepresented regions through research and educational grants. The program aims to advance scientific leadership and knowledge in these regions, enabling recipients to use their expertise to improve the socio-economic conditions of their home countries.
Requirements for Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Program Qualification
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Be female citizens of a developing country or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in STEM fields. Applicants with secondary citizenship from developed countries are not eligible.
- Be preparing for PhD or postdoctoral research in STEM. Master-level studies are not eligible.
- Be enrolled, admitted to, or applying to a research institute or university abroad.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Demonstrate a commitment to return to their home country or region after completing their studies to contribute to socio-economic development.
- Have teaching experience in their home country and show dedication to returning home to an academic or research role in STEM, or to becoming a STEM entrepreneur addressing local challenges.
- Exhibit leadership skills and active participation in encouraging women and girls into STEM fields.
Schlumberger employees are not eligible for this grant.
Interview Process and Selection Rounds
The selection process includes five rounds:
- First Round: Eligibility check based on criteria such as country of origin, academic discipline, and overall application quality.
- Second Round: Shortlisting based on academic performance, reference quality, research proposal, commitment to teaching, research relevance to home country, and leadership in STEM education.
- Third Round: Review by the Schlumberger Foundation scientific committee with emphasis on research quality and impact on the home country.
- Fourth Round: Interviews conducted by members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and Executive Management.
- Final Round: Selection of grant recipients by the Schlumberger Foundation Board of Directors.
Application Timeline
Applications for the 2025 fellowships will be accepted from September 2, 2024, to November 8, 2024. Reference letters are due by November 15, 2024.
