Applications are now open for the 2025 World Bank Group (WBG) Africa Fellowship Program. This program targets young, talented African nationals who are completing or have recently completed their Ph.D. in fields relevant to the World Bank’s work. Since its inception, the fellowship has successfully built a strong pipeline of young African talent interested in careers in development, international institutions, African governments, think tanks, and academia.
Program Details
- Duration: Six-month assignment
- Location: WBG offices in Washington, D.C. or country offices
- Experience: Gain hands-on experience in WBG operations, including knowledge generation and dissemination, policy design, and institution building for inclusive growth in developing countries.
Fellowship Benefits
- Consultant Fees: Eligible fellows receive consultant fees.
- Travel: Round-trip economy-class air travel to Washington, D.C. or a WBG country office.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the 2025 World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Program, applicants must:
- Be a Ph.D. candidate or recent graduate (within three years of Ph.D. completion) from Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Have an excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
- Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Be 32 or under by January 2025.
Selection Process
- Phase I: Short-listing of candidates based on their field of specialization and interest. Applicants will be notified about their application status.
- Phase II: Final selection in consultation with various WBG units. Shortlisted candidates will be informed of their selection status, and selected candidates will be hired as short-term consultants for six months starting January 2025.
