The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship (UES) is a fully funded opportunity for exceptional international students who wish to pursue either a bachelor’s or master’s degree at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. The program is highly selective and covers both tuition and living expenses for the duration of the scholarship. It offers financial support ranging from €5,000 to €17,000 annually, depending on the student’s level of study. This scholarship is designed to attract talented individuals from all over the world to study at Utrecht University in various academic fields.
For undergraduates, the scholarship provides support for up to three years, while master’s degree students may receive funding for their entire program, including renewal for the second year if their course spans two years. The scholarship is funded by the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Fund, created by Utrecht University with contributions from its alumni.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be in the top 10% of their graduating class.
- Not hold an EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for any Dutch financial aid.
- Have completed their secondary education or undergraduate degree outside of the Netherlands.
- Apply for an international master’s or bachelor’s program starting in September 2025.

How to Apply
Interested applicants must first apply for admission to either a bachelor’s or master’s program at Utrecht University. Once the application is submitted for an eligible program, non-EU/EEA students will be able to access the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship application through their OSIRIS Online Application account. Candidates must then submit proof that they belong to the top 10% of their class or provide a personal statement, along with the other requested documents.
