Fellowship Details
The University of Manitoba Alumni Association has contributed $500,000 to establish an endowment fund supporting doctoral students. The purpose of this fellowship is to attract outstanding doctoral students from around the world. These competitive fellowships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual ability and academic accomplishments.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the 2024 University of Manitoba Fellowship, applicants must:
- Be domestic or international students
- Be enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba, in the first year of any doctoral program
- Be entering a research-based doctoral program
- Have a minimum degree grade point average of 3.75 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study
Duration and Renewal
The fellowship provides $500,000 in scholarships each year, available as:
- A full scholarship, or
- A top-up to other awards like the Tri-Council awards, University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship, or Manitoba Government Scholarship.
The scholarship is renewable for up to three years, provided recipients:
- Remain enrolled full-time in a research-based doctoral program at the University of Manitoba
- Are in their second, third, or fourth year of their doctoral program
- Maintain a minimum degree grade point average of 3.75
- Note: The scholarship is not renewable after the fourth year of the doctoral program.

- Recipients will be selected from eligible candidates recommended by their department for a UMGF, based on the established award criteria.

- Students and departments do not need to submit any additional materials or applications to be considered for the UMAAGF.
