Fellowship Details

The United Nations Economic Fellowship aims to give young professionals practical experience in their early and middle careers, whether they are in academia, the public sector, or international development. The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is the United Nations’ regional arm in Africa, dedicated to promoting economic and social development across the continent. The ECA supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Agenda 2030, and Agenda 2063 of the African Union through its five sub-regional offices and the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be 35 years old or younger.
  • Nationality: Must be nationals of a member state of the Economic Commission for Africa.
  • Educational Qualifications: Graduated with at least a master’s degree by July 1, 2024.
  • Thematic Interest: Interest in one or more of the program’s thematic areas.
  • Project Work: Ready to work on a predefined project.
  • Meeting Participation: Participate in national, regional, or international meetings.
  • Research Presentation: Present a peer-reviewed research paper at a seminar.
  • Alumni Engagement: Join the alumni association of ECA Fellows.

Benefits

  • Settling-In Grant: $3,000 for fellows recruited from outside the duty station.
  • Monthly Stipend: $3,000 for the duration of the fellowship.
