Fellowship Details
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation sponsors researchers with outstanding qualifications from all nationalities. Fellows benefit from individual support and a diverse sponsorship portfolio from the Humboldt Foundation. Researchers from developing countries whose work contributes to sustainable development are encouraged to apply for the Georg Forster Research Fellowship, which is equivalent to the Humboldt Research Fellowship.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Humboldt Research Fellowship Program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Nationality: Non-German nationals. German nationals who obtained their university degree and doctorate in Germany can apply if they have lived and worked abroad for more than ten years.
- Expert Reviews: Two expert reviews are required.
- Postdocs: Reviews from your doctoral supervisor and another researcher (preferably outside your institute).
- Experienced Researchers: Reviews from collaborative partners and researchers from your institute and others (preferably outside your country).
- Language Skills:
- Natural Sciences and Engineering: Good knowledge of German or English.
- Humanities, Social Sciences, and Medicine: Good knowledge of German if necessary for your research; otherwise, good knowledge of English will suffice.
Benefits
- Postdoctoral Researchers: €2,670 monthly, for 6 to 24 months.
- Experienced Researchers: €3,170 monthly, for 6 to 18 months (divisible into up to three stays within three years).
