Governor Uba Sani is intensifying efforts to ensure the delivery of quality education to pupils and students in Kaduna State as part of his administration’s Human Capital Development initiative.

The Director General of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA), Professor Usman Abubakar Zaria, highlighted these efforts during the quarterly press briefing at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.

Professor Zaria revealed that Governor Sani has sponsored over 136,742 candidates for various examinations in 2024, with the number expected to rise to 175,752 this year, including orphans. Additionally, he announced that the Kaduna State Government has secured a commitment from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to establish the first Computer-Based Test (CBT) center in Northern Nigeria.

Commending the governor’s visionary leadership, he noted that Kaduna State has been elected to four key WAEC committees: the Administrative and Finance Committee, the Examinations Committee, the Tenders Board, and the Appointments Committee. He also recalled that the state successfully hosted the 62nd WAEC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November 2024, bringing international recognition and economic benefits.

As part of its regulatory efforts, the Authority conducted a comprehensive mapping of private schools in the state, identifying and documenting 3,622 private institutions—far exceeding the previous estimate of 1,800. GPS coordinates were captured to enhance planning and regulatory oversight.

Professor Zaria issued a strong warning to unregistered private schools, urging them to comply with KSSQAA regulations to avoid enforcement actions. He also reminded private schools of the need for timely payment of annual renewal fees and emphasized that the deadline for Basic Education Certificate Examination and Basic Arabic and Islamic Certificate Examination registration is March 14, 2025. He further stated that renewing private school licenses now requires the submission of a Quality Assurance report.

In a bid to enhance teacher capacity, KSSQAA has trained 604 teachers and staff members in collaboration with development partners. Additionally, the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigerian Education (PLANE) has established a modern ICT hub within the Authority’s premises to support digital learning and innovation.

These initiatives reaffirm Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to strengthening the education sector in Kaduna State, ensuring students receive quality learning opportunities and the necessary resources for academic excellence.
