Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the vital role of education in empowering youths, creating opportunities, and fostering a prosperous future for Lagos.
Speaking on Thursday at the commissioning of newly constructed ultra-modern classroom blocks in three public schools, the governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure. The schools—St. Luke Junior Grammar School in Bariga, Mainland Junior Secondary School in Fadeyi, and Euba Junior High School in Mushin—benefited from the initiative executed by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS).
Represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Oluwasegun Osiyemi, at the Bariga event, Sanwo-Olu described the project as a milestone in his administration’s broader efforts to transform education in the state. He revealed that nine other schools across Lagos were also being commissioned within the week.
“Education is the most powerful tool for unlocking the potential of our youths and building a brighter future. That is why education and technology are central to our THEMES Plus Agenda,” the governor stated. “The newly commissioned facilities reflect our vision for a Lagos where every child has access to quality education, regardless of background.”
At the Fadeyi event, where he was represented by the Special Adviser on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, the governor highlighted the government’s continued investment in modern infrastructure, learning materials, and technology to create an enabling learning environment.
“This initiative underscores the transformative power of education. The new classrooms symbolize our commitment to securing a better future for our children through quality learning,” Aregbe remarked.
He called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to support the government’s educational initiatives by ensuring the proper maintenance of the new facilities. Students were also encouraged to take full advantage of the upgraded learning environment.
“Education is a collective responsibility. We must all work together to help every child reach their full potential,” he added.
At Euba Junior High School in Mushin, Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Special Adviser, Office of Internal Audit, Dr. Mrs. Oyeyemi Ayoola, acknowledged the longstanding challenges faced by the school, including overcrowding, poor infrastructure, and inadequate learning facilities. These issues, he noted, have negatively impacted student performance and retention rates.
Recognizing these concerns, his administration took decisive steps to address them, reaffirming its commitment to creating safe and conducive learning spaces. The governor emphasized that improved infrastructure would not only enhance education quality but also drive community development.
“Better school facilities will reduce absenteeism, boost parental involvement, and provide a more motivating environment for learning,” he said. “Beyond the impact on students and teachers, this project has also contributed to local economic growth by creating job opportunities during construction. In the long run, quality education will empower our youths, spur innovation, and strengthen social cohesion.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the community to take ownership of the school and ensure it remains a center of excellence. He also encouraged students to be disciplined and committed to their studies.
“Education is not just about personal success; it is a tool for uplifting families, communities, and the nation as a whole. With determination and hard work, you can achieve greatness,” he told the students.
Tutor-General of Lagos State District Six, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuf, also emphasized the importance of maintaining the newly provided infrastructure. She reminded school administrators that the project was funded through taxpayers’ contributions and urged them to ensure its longevity.
With these new facilities, the Lagos State Government continues to strengthen its commitment to providing world-class education, ensuring that students have the tools and environment necessary to succeed.
