The Enugu State Government has announced that top executives from global technology giants, including Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, will participate in the first-ever Enugu Tech Festival.
Scheduled to take place from May 6 to May 9, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, the four-day festival is themed “COAL to CODE” and aims to position the state as a leading tech hub in West Africa.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Lawrence Ezeh, Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, emphasized that the festival is designed to transform Enugu’s technology ecosystem, foster innovation, and support the growth of tech startups. The event, a collaboration between the Enugu State Tech and Startup Ecosystem and the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, will feature rallies, panel discussions, networking sessions, and exhibitions.
Ezeh revealed that the festival is expected to attract 10,000 participants, including startup founders, tech investors, students, graduates, and policymakers. He noted that it would provide an opportunity for attendees to engage with local innovators and showcase Enugu’s rapidly growing technology sector.
The festival will feature speaking engagements with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and key figures from the global tech industry. Panel discussions will focus on technology innovation, startup funding, and the West Africa Stargate Initiative, which seeks to establish a sustainable tech ecosystem in the region. A town hall meeting will also bring together stakeholders, heads of tertiary institutions, and industry leaders to discuss strategies for advancing tech education and industry growth in Nigeria and West Africa.
Ezeh expressed confidence that the Enugu Tech Festival would serve as a catalyst for technological advancement and investment in the region, reinforcing the state’s ambition to become a major player in Africa’s digital economy.
