The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is set to provide fully funded scholarships for Nigerian students pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Metallurgical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and Food Chemistry at Benue State University, Makurdi (BSUM). The initiative aims to strengthen higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa and promote sustainable development by supporting students who intend to build careers in teaching and research.
The scholarship covers tuition, study and research allowances, thesis publishing costs, travel expenses, and health insurance. Master’s programs will be funded for up to two years, while PhD programs will receive support for up to three years.
Eligibility is open to graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. Master’s applicants must hold a first academic degree, while PhD candidates must have a Master’s and can choose to study in their home country or another Sub-Saharan African nation. Female candidates and individuals from underprivileged regions are strongly encouraged to apply.
The selection process varies depending on the degree program and host institution, and applicants are advised to carefully review the official call for applications for specific guidelines. All applications must be submitted by April 9, 2025.
