Applications are now open for the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program 2025 (CADFP). This program, managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY), supports educational projects at African higher education institutions by offering fellowships to African-born scholars residing in the United States and Canada.
Since its inception in 2013, the CADFP has awarded 705 fellowships, reflecting CCNY’s strong commitment to higher education in Africa. The program provides a structured platform for diaspora scholars to contribute to the academic and research landscape of African universities.
Benefits
African-born Diaspora Fellows selected for the CADFP receive the following benefits:
- A stipend of $150 per day
- Visa costs (if required)
- Supplemental health insurance coverage
- Round-trip international air travel and ground transportation costs to and from the scholar’s home to the North American airport
- Potential opportunities for additional funding to support knowledge production activities and workshop attendance
Eligibility
To qualify for the CADFP, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be born in an African country, as evidenced by the biographical data in their passport
- Reside in the United States or Canada
- Hold a terminal degree
- Be employed full-time at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada
Please note that scholars of any academic rank are eligible, except for postdoctoral researchers.
Application Process
Interested scholars must submit an application that includes:
- Personal statements
- Information about their academic qualifications, disciplinary expertise, and administrative experience
- A letter of recommendation from a Dean or an administrator of equal or higher level from their current institution
