The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to integrating 10 million out-of-school children into the education system.
Speaking at the third edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Session in Abuja on Thursday, Alausa emphasized the government’s focus on increasing access, improving quality, and enhancing foundational learning systems.
He outlined a strategic plan aimed at transforming the country’s educational sector by 2027.
“Between now and 2027, we will reconstruct 195,000 classrooms nationwide,” he stated. “Regarding infrastructure, we will also install 28,000 toilets and 22,900 boreholes across schools in the country. Additionally, we plan to construct about 7,000 new classrooms while ensuring the provision of learning and teaching materials, including 103 million textbooks.”
Highlighting vocational and technical training in schools, Alausa revealed that President Bola Tinubu had approved N120 billion as startup funding for students’ entrepreneurial training. He noted that the government is emphasizing technical education that provides practical skills for artisans.
“We are adopting a dual-mode training approach, where students will spend three days in school, one day in extensive training, and one day in a workshop,” he explained.
Regarding the abandoned national library project, Alausa disclosed that President Tinubu has allocated N40 billion to resume construction, reinforcing support for academic and research needs.
Additionally, the ministry has initiated key committees to review the national education policy, national language policy, and national almajiri policy to further enhance the education sector’s framework.
